Where do I begin? Well, my name is Jamie Hill and I am an artist. That wasn't too hard. You see, this is kinda new to me. Let me explain.
I've been drawing and painting ever since I had the proper motor function to do so. I was born in rural Woodbine, Maryland and grew up in the 80's on cartoons, comics, The Cosby Show and hip-hop. I went on to train as a costume designer at Florida State University where I received a Bachelor of Fine Arts. After a series of failure and bad luck, I lost my passion for theater. While I was sleeping on a friend's couch in Minneapolis, I was brought to tears the day the “real world” came knocking. After moving back to live with my folks in Maryland and being steadily employed for some time, I put my creativity in hospice. Vital signs were shallow. I thought that was it.
Here's the funny thing though about art: the more I ignored it, the more it showed itself. When the “real world” seemed harder than concrete, art was my masseuse, psychiatrist, drug, and girlfriend all wrapped in one. No offense Amanda (my wife and biggest fan!). After the encouragement of many of my dearest friends, I’ve decided to bring my art to the masses in the form of Ethknowledgey.
Ethknowledgey is an imaginative way to look at me, you and everybody. We spend so much time creating labels – black, white, rich, poor, strong, weak, man, woman, conservative, liberal, hip-hopper, punk rocker – we fail to see our shared joys and agonies. Ethknowledgey is the beauty of being human.
